Situation
The client wanted to understand what we have in the 4 datacenters, what applications we all run, what can be consolidated? The customer required a 7-year plan for data center consolidation and or move to cloud.
Impact
Manual discovery and consolidation approaches with dedicated teams resulted in project delays and significant budget overruns. CMDB was a in messy state. Thousands of unknown or rogue servers causing non-compliance and security risk.
Resolution
CloudFabrix solution provided real-time Asset Intelligence with in-depth insights about extensive metadata for every asset, infra-to-application dependencies, capacity/utilization insights, EoS/EoL insights and performance utilization.
The client is a leading healthcare provider with two large hospitals merged in 2021, forming a Top 10 US Hospital Group. Post-merger, the customer has 4 core data centers, 26 hospitals and 500 care facilities and over 70,000 employees. The client runs the largest EPIC software install in the World (EPIC is the leading healthcare management software)
The Need
As part of the digital transformation initiative, and with the rapid emergence of telehealth services and hybrid work, the client wanted to embrace cloud and modern software defined technologies, which also required IT asset rationalization and consolidation of multiple legacy datacenters into fewer datacenters.

The Solution
The Integrator (CloudFabrix partner) won the bid, 120 day project at with CloudFabrix. Bids from other vendors/partners came in over $1M of professional services and up to a year project, vs the 120 day request, by the client. The client selected CloudFabrix solution.
CloudFabrix Asset Intelligence - Enterprise version was deployed in customer’s primary Datacenter. The solution performed agentless discovery using multiple protocols, SNMPv3, Cisco Network devices, CDP, LLDP, Linux, Windows, Active Directory and API integrations to VMware, Infoblox NetMRI, Arista/BigSwitch SDN networks etc. The solution provided provided real-time Asset Intelligence with in-depth insights about extensive metadata for every asset, infra-to-application dependencies, capacity/utilization insights, EoS/EoL
insights and performance utilization.
Findings
- 1PB+ of unused/unknown, storage
- Over 100+ unknown, un-patched, bare metal servers
- 200+ apps, with unknown passwords
- Unknown network elements
- 1,000’s of abandoned applications on servers
- Significant, hidden, decommissioned assets, still in use
- 10% more AIX servers in a cluster, than accounted for
